We’re most definitely loving the vibe and energetic music by “The Hoo”. A mix between Jazz, Funk and Hip Hop,…

“…formed around the parisian keyboardist Anthony Malka with Tristano Pala (vocals and flute) and Uele Carboni (bass) from the Italian Funk combo Fun*Key plus the Moscow born drummer Alex Sitnikov. Musically it’s Sly Stone meeting The Roots. It’s all about tightness. About head banging and sweat.”

Their life performances look like a ton of fun and we’re looking forward to finally be on one . “The Hoo” just finished recording their demo album “My Degeneration”. If you want your dose of most danceable funk you should listen to (and buy) it now.

Is there a better way to start the second weekend of the new year then with a brand new live set by OneBeat artist Jan Hertz. Chilled,  deep, carrying you away with ease, Jan manages to shape up live-sets that are melodic and danceable. We come a bit late on this since the year started sloooowly for OneBeat, but we’re back on track and happy to start our blog with this gem for 2013. The live-set was edited and uploaded for Mischpoke, a small Berlin-based collective Jan teamed up with (congrats!), alongside artists like Rocko Garoni, Mind The Clap,  franzi.fritz. Free to download, we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

arrowNew artist: “Contemporary Melodic Groove” by Elephant

We are very happy to announce that the contemporary jazz trio Elephant have joined our music collective and will from now on be supported by the growing OneBeat network and structures. ELEPHANT are Marco (Piano), Jesse (Bass), and Christoph (Drums, Electronics).  2 thirds Berlin, 1 third Montreal they teamed up in the beginning of 2012 and quickly found a common voice in their music. When we first saw them play live we got carried away and instantly had ideas for projects or events we could work on together. For them “improvisation is the underlying core” and Elephant works around various elements from jazz, popculture, classical, contemporary to electronica, in an ever evolving process. We’re looking forward to an Experimental Session in November and another gig soon to be confirmed.

arrowLavoisier News: A new song and a shiny website developed by OneBeat

OneBeat’s Patricia and Roberto from the portuguese duo Lavoisier collect lost popular portuguese folk songs and bring them back to live. Both their own originals and interpretations of lost songs are played with utmost dedication. The effort pays off: the couple  just spent almost 1 month touring for concerts in Portugal. They have been booked to play for the singer-songwriter festival Klub Geyser in Denmark, have several shows coming up and already played more gigs in the first half of 2012, then in the whole of 2011.
Earlier this summer we met up to talk about a new website their urgently needed, to present their event photos and announce news and concerts. We couldn’t do it fast, but with some time and dedication we managed to build a nice website for the duo. The first website built by OneBeat for our artists, we proudly present:

We also asked them for a new song so we uploaded a brand new Lavoisier track on our soundcloud: Canta Amigo Canta (engl. Sing Friend Sing).
