In April we finally got round on doing our own OneBeat Tee #1. One of the core concepts of our project is too support and work with our network of designers and illustrators and local heros in general. For the OneBeat T-Shirt we asked the great Ulrike aka Kater Stets to provide us a drawing. Ulrike works in the Michelberger Hotel and makes and draws many of the beautiful things that can be found and seen in and around the hotel. Be sure to check her work on wollex-berlin.blogspot.de, in addition to illustrations on paper, she crochets all sorts of curiosities.
The Tee itself is from the nakedgreen series. Nakedgreen offers a wide range of new green products made of certified organic Turkish cotton or textiles containing a high proportion of viscose from bamboo cellulose. This Tee has a “Fair Wear Foundation” label, and we’re glad it does. More on the Foundation, a non-profit organisation that works with companies and factories to improve labour conditions for garment workers (quite a sensitive topic right now!), on www.fairwear.org. We should all be conscious about where the things we buy come from.
For the printing we thought that it would be great to print our firsts shirts by ourselves, learn about screenprinting and make a real handmade series. We asked our friend Jan Beeskow aka Jan Jan Lille Svan for help. Jan has his own screenprinting workshop at home and produces beautiful prints for clothing in his own series under the moniker Jan Jan Lille Svan. You should most definitely head over to his online shop and follow him on Facebook. Jan received us in his home, guided us through the printing process and showed us all the tricks. Check out lots of pictures from our printing session with Jan below, if you’re interested in working with him shoot us an email. We’re super happy with the outcome, our first tee is a real beauty.
You can get the OneBeat Tee #1 for boys and girls from a 25€ donation (including postage costs) on our brand new donation page: http://donate.onebe.at.
It’s a limited edition, first-come, first-served and be sure to share this on the social networks of your choosing.
