arrowHow to Eat Cultures? A Transatlantic Melting Pot

13.05.12 by Lukas

Lavoisier Radio Show Reboot.fm

What does Cultural Cannibalism mean? Was Antropofagia the forerunner of Tropicalismo? Why did Caetano Veloso leave Brazil at the end of the sixties? Is there a link between Portuguese traditional music and South American sounds? Was folk music for the Carnation Revolution what Facebook has been nowadays for the Arabian Spring? And what has a well-known chemist to do with all these questions? Lavoisier, a young Portuguese singer and musician couple, is taking us on a trip through many decades and influences, eating cultures like Pac Man swallowed his pills. Bon appétit!

Back in March we announced an experimental radio feature about Lavoisier, their music and “eating cultures”. Here’s the soundcloud stream. Have fun!

Moderation: Lavoisier & Bernd Robionek
Music: Lavoisier

lavoisier live at sehsuechte 2012 2

Like last year we went to Potsdam to present OneBeat acts at the sehsüchte lounge stage. Sehsüchte, Europe’s largest international student film festival, is entirely organized by students of the HFF, and dedicated to the international young generation of filmmakers. A melting pot of cultures and ideas, so we where happy to provide our contribution. We invited Lavoisier, wo already came to sehsüchte with us last year, and Sorry Gilberto, the lovely indie-folk duo who played for the first time on a OneBeat stage. Big thanks go out to the whole sehsüchte crew, who where amazingly helpful providing transport and equipment and of course to the artists and everyone who made it to our session!

arrowLive Recording – Wermonster as Eugénie at Experimental Session#3

06.05.12 by Lukas

wermonster as eugine experimental session 3

On Friday the 13th of April of 2012 we invited Nico aka Wermonster to show us an improvised performance of his new project called “Eugénie”, the third round of our experimental sessions. He came with his friend Matthieu and they made some noise: frequencies and sounds triggered by audio toys, a guitar and wool, and a bunch of oldschool synthesizers.. finally here’s the recording. Now clearly, this isn’t everyone’s piece of cake, but you can’t deny the imagery evoked with your headphones on and eyes closed. Enjoy.. thanks Nico and Matthieu.

arrowOneBeat concerts at sehsüchte film festival with LAVOISIER & SORRY GILBERTO live, 27.04, 21h30

24.04.12 by Lukas

Lavoisier & Sorry Gilberto LIVE

Like last year we’ll be back in Potsdam for  sehsüchte, Europe’s largest international student film festival. It’s entirely organized by students of the HFF, and dedicated to the international young generation of filmmakers. Be sure to check their website: http://2012.sehsuechte.de.

Start: 21h30 at the HFF Konrad Wolf
Marlene-Dietrich-Allee 11, 14482 Potsdam
Facebook RSVP

We’re very happy to present 2 great bands in the sehsüchte lounge:

SORRY GILBERTO (indie-folk & pop) - http://www.sorrygilberto.com
„On the blue bus baby will be sunshine instead of weather“ – they say in one of their songs. Sorry Gilberto are Anne von Keller und Jakob Dobers who live in Berlin. They play a couple of instruments, which are much less than themselves. Their folk-sound is influenced by Jonathan Richman and the Go-Betweens. And of course they miss the Moldy Peaches and Brokof and surely they would love to see Leonard Cohen live in concert.

LAVOISIER (portuguese folk & bossa nova) -http://www.onebe.at/en/artists/lavoisier
Old songs with a new spirit – Lavoisier are Patricia and Roberto from Portugal, influenced by each other and the whole world of sensations that music can bring along. With the spirit that was left by the political movement of the “Tropicalistas”, they create a mix of pop, bossa nova and brazilian and portuguese folk music. Lavoisier tries to see the music not only as a matter of individuality, but as a full sense of awareness and presence in a world that we’re living in right now, and that already existed before.

It’s a long way out to Potsdam but it will be worth it..
