OneBeat on the move: we hereby start our podcast series. The OneBeat podcast #1 mixed by Ma Tias is a journey into the best deephouse has to offer these days. Ma Tias has been DJing at our events for over 2 years now, being one of the best track selectors we know, from house to old school hip hop. When he’s playing you get the feeling that he really knows every track he’s playing and we’re looking forward to more events and dance floors together. New videos by Lavoisier – In love with portuguese music

Roberto and Patricia from our OneBeat collective travelled to Portugal to play shows in February this year. They played a show at the great “Primeiro Andar” in Lisbon and also met the guys from “A Música Portuguesa A Gostar Dela Própria” (translated that means something like “The Portuguese Music liking herself”). This project around Tiago Pereira aims to feature portuguese musicians in unexpected and public places (several per week), showcasing folk and traditional music from around the country. The’ve produced over a 1000 videos since 2011, from Fado to Jazz, to the “cantos populares”, about newcomers and old traditional groups, all displayed free to watch on their Vimeo channel. We think that this is a great way to collect and promote portuguese music and are glad that Lavoisier could be part of it. Watch the videos below.

Is there a better way to start the second weekend of the new year then with a brand new live set by OneBeat artist Jan Hertz. Chilled, deep, carrying you away with ease, Jan manages to shape up live-sets that are melodic and danceable. We come a bit late on this since the year started sloooowly for OneBeat, but we’re back on track and happy to start our blog with this gem for 2013. The live-set was edited and uploaded for Mischpoke, a small Berlin-based collective Jan teamed up with (congrats!), alongside artists like Rocko Garoni, Mind The Clap, franzi.fritz. Get High Fiona – Better Rhythm

Get High Fiona did their Onebeat debut with their great show at our 4th edition of our experimental session in September. They play a mix of world music, experimental electronica and soul. It’s hard to define but instantly makes you sense the depth of the emotions they put in their songwriting. Biljana plays bass on a keyboard, makes fills and sings, looping and filtering her voice. Geronimo is the multi-instrumentalist behind the main sound collage, playing the guitar, piano and wavedrum, creating beats and breaks with his computer.

Experimental Session 5 – compositions for film w/ ELEPHANT 9.11 21h

Session 5 is a special one.
We challenged the trio ELEPHANT to play a live jam session to accompany silent film sequences.

ELEPHANT are the ‘contemporary melodic groove collective’. Drums, bass and piano by Christoph, Antti and Marco. Various elements from jazz, popculture, classical, contemporary and electronica, whilst improvisation is the underlying core.

For the session we’ll work with a wide range of footage, not exclusively from silent films but coming mostly from around the 1920s and 1930s. The night will be divided into 3 20min parts, each representing a different theme and divided by short breaks. ELEPHANT will be improvising to a sequence they will have seen before, but never played or rehearsed to.
