arrowNew album “Silent Revolt” by One Dub Connection

24.05.13 by Lukas

After their debut album “Sound is Religion” in 2009, Alex and Marvin from the OneBeat Live-Act One Dub Connection published their awaited LP “Silent Revolt”. The One Dub trademark sound is when world music and dubbed beats merge with reggae, hip-hop and D’n’B. Alex and Marvin call it “Culture Dub Beats”. I instantly think of Thievery Corporation, which is great. The new album is faster with plenty of low end pressure, brings us more drum’n’bass with many accoustic components and is also filled with dreamy atmospheres and oriental sounds like sitar or the greek instrument “Tsouras”.  The duo produced, mixed and mastered the album and published on their own netlabel “Diversified Music”. Listen below, be sure to grab your copy!

One Dub Connection is about and about this summer, be sure to catch them:

14. June – Big rig Festival Münster
20. July – Waldgebeat Waldmühlen
26. July – Lion Dub Festival Berlin
23. August – Solar Festival Salzwedel

“Silent Revolt” can be purchased on Amazon, iTunes and Beatport.

19.09.12 by Lukas

On saturday the 8th of September we where back down under in the Brunnen70 basement. This time with a different lineup, different musical direction and in a bigger room. We prepared well for our showcase at the monthly “Wedding Present” underground festival, bringing 2 DJs, 3 Live-Acts, 2 VJs and a light installation.

The night started with a journey through uk bass, hip hop and house by James A. Shaw as playing under his moniker Borth Sea Defence (stay tuned for more, James OneBeat artist profile is coming up). He played a live dj set with “two turntables, a laptop running Traktor and Ableton, a Korg nanopad triggering hits and samples which are running from Ableton and a Korg Monotron Delay for a few oscillations”. Enough said, listen to the recording of the Borth Sea Defence set below.

After James we had One Dub Connection finally performing again on a OneBeat showcase since Karneval der Kulturen in 2011. A blend of dub and drum’n’bass, followed by the electronica live-act Kyson, who brought plenty of gear and even had a drummer for percussion lined up, but who sadly got ill before the event. Lush, deep, and more upbeat then ever before he pleased us with a brilliant live performance.
Third live-act in a row was Wermonster, beatmaker deluxe who came straight from recording sessions in Wiesbaden. Nico has been a busy man lately. Last but not least, Alex from One Dub Connection performed a banging drum’n’bass set under his alias Trilingo… we must agree that drum’n’bass isn’t something you hear often enough in Berlin these days, that was great for a change. For visuals we invited Robert Heel for a light installation (check out his work at www.robertheel.com) and RTZ23 and E (E-Gruppe Berlin) for vjing (E introduced us to some pretty straightforward projection mapping, thanks again for the help with the setup).

Thanks go out to all the helping hands and of course our artists for playing for OneBeat for free, thus helping us grow our project and network. We hope to see you next time!

arrowOneBeat meets Viva con Agua at Karneval der Kulturen 2011 – 11.06.11 – Photos

15.06.11 by Lukas

The Karneval der Kulturen website states that there are “330 market stalls with culinary seducements, arts and crafts and much more.” on the Kdk 2011 street festival. Indeed, the street festival was huge and the whole city vibrated music, different cultures and a party mood over the last weekend, with OneBeat right in the middle of it. Viva con Agua had their sales stands, small stage and chillout area right at the beginning of Zossener Straße, a entry passage to the Karneval.

The stage was ours from 16 pm on but the Event schedule started with a surprise for us at 15h: Jefferson Hope. The young singer/songwriter played 1 hour before our slot started and impressed with smart and witty lyrics and a good performance. Be sure to listen to his music here or catch him on facebook.

Right on time for our slot there was the rain and OneBeat’s musical part started challenging. From an almost 1 hour rainfall to a hardware failure, we had it all when the show was supposed to start. Luckily we managed to fix everything and soon the sun came out again while the rest went smooth and was proper fun. Check out the images below which are ordered in sequence of events.

We’d like to thank the whole Viva con Agua crew for having us. They where super nice and supplied us and our artists with everything we needed.
Massive thanks, we where impressed with their dedication and hard work for a good cause. Big shout out also to our artists and to the OneBeat crew.

More to come, see you there next time!
