Last friday, the 16th of December, our second “Experimental Session” took place in João Cocteau in Neukölln. With the sessions we start our approach to small events based on experimental music and music performance.
This time we invited our newest member Kyson, to perform live (supported by Geordie Little) and RTZ23 to create visuals to his music. The weather was terrible as a low pressure zone was just passing over Berlin, icy rain was pouring down, so first of all we owe everyone that made to our event in these conditions a big thanks. Despite the bad conditions i think Kyson’s downtempo music kind of fitted perfectly into this ambience, personally sometimes i like to define it as “winter music”. For all those who haven’t heard his work yet, have a listen:
Inside it was warm and cosy, and after starting with a slight delay (typical for Berlin i guess) everything worked the way we thought it would. The idea behind these experimental sessions is to bring artists together in new ways and to present something different every time. RTZ23 and Kyson collaborated for the very first time and they had only been in touch online, trying to put together a show with one visual theme per song. We wanted to create an audiovisual experience outside of the club context, and to create a stronger focus on the artist performance by presenting this in a space which is not a club nor a bar. We think that this worked really well, people sat down, watched and listened and as far as we know really enjoyed the performance. Big thanks go out to Geordie Little for supported Kyson on the guitar, to Kyson and RTZ23 for the hard work they put into it and of course to Joao Cocteau for the great venue. The date for the next session is not final yet, but expect it to be in early 2012. Hope to see you there next time!
